Avoiding Costly Fees
Life's unexpected expenses shouldn't keep you up at night. Our overdraft protection offers personalized plans to safeguard your finances and peace of mind.
Overdraft Protection: Automatically transfers funds to your checking account from another account or line of credit at Citizens Bank & Trust for a finance charge. Subject to credit approval.
Overdraft Privilege: Allows you to overdraw your account up to a disclosed limit for a fee. It serves as secondary coverage if overdraft protection is exhausted.

Key Information
- A linked account or line of credit is a less expensive option than an overdraft fee.
- Overdraft Fees: $29 per item, capped at 5 fees ($145) daily for consumer accounts. No fee if overdrawn by $10 or less.
- Posting Order: 1) Credits, 2) ATM/Debit (low-to-high), 3) ACH debits (low-to-high), 4) checks cashed at Citizens then all other checks (serial order). Exceptions may occur. Holds on funds (described below) and the order in which transactions are posted may impact the total amount of Overdraft Fees or Return Fees assessed.
- Debit card transactions may be restricted if overdrafts exceed available funds.
- Citizens Bank & Trust Company processes transactions based on your account's available balance, which is the ledger balance minus debit card holds and excludes funds on deposit hold. Holds may be placed on deposited funds per the Deposit Account Agreement. If funds are insufficient, overdraft protection or Overdraft Privilege may cover the transaction. Authorized debit card transactions will have a hold placed until they settle (typically within two business days), and the hold amount may exceed the transaction value. Once the hold ends, funds return to your available balance. If your account remains overdrawn when the transaction posts, an Overdraft Fee may apply.
Limits
- Personal Checking: $100 at opening; up to $500 after 60 days in good standing.
- Business Checking: Up to $1,000 after 60 days in good standing.
Overdraft Privilege is discretionary and may be discontinued for accounts not in good standing. For questions, call (225) 687-5940 or visit a branch.
